Red Apple Supplies Store Brings Together Community Leaders To Benefit Students and Teachers

WEST PALM BEACH, FL –  The business community, elected officials and education professionals celebrated on Wednesday the grand opening of the Red Apple Supplies store. More than 100 people attended the event and toured the store filled with school supplies that will be given to teachers for free, an initiative by the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County to improve opportunities for public school students. Teachers in 14 of the highest need Title I schools in Palm Beach County can begin shopping for up to $500 in supplies on Monday, August 8.

“You’re not just helping kids. Many teachers spend upwards of $1,000 or more on school supplies,” said Palm Beach County School District Superintendent Dr. Robert Avossa at the ribbon cutting ceremony. “You can’t grow strong alone. You grow strong together.”

Attendees included: Elected officials (West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio, Wellington Mayor Anne Gerwig, School Board Member Karen Brill), Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches, business and community leaders, education leaders (Palm Beach County School District Superintendent Dr. Robert Avossa, Kristine Cohn from Kids in Need Foundation, teachers, principals and school district employees. Business partners that donated supplies and joined the celebration included TDBank, FPL and Bank of America.

“The outpouring of support sends a message to our teachers and students that the community cares. We believe in our students, and we believe they can do more if they aren’t worried about getting the most basic supplies. This will make a difference, but we are just getting started, and we are hoping to expand to more schools as soon as we can get more supplies,” said Education Foundation CEO Christina Lambert.

Volunteers, donations and supply drives are needed to help Red Apple Supplies remain stocked throughout the year. Collection bins will be placed at locations throughout the community for donations.

The Education Foundation of Palm Beach County is the community leader and voice for excellence in Palm Beach County's public schools.
